BAKED LEMON GARLIC TILAPIA

Baked Lemon Garlic Tilapia fillets are an easy recipe for a delicious weeknight dinner with a relatively short cook time. Like most fish recipes, you’ll want to make sure that your baked tilapia is completely cooked through before eating it to keep yourself from getting sick from it. I suggest that you use fresh tilapia fillets instead of frozen fish for this easy recipe, since they won’t have as pleasant a flavor as the fresh fish will.

White fish like tilapia is great for when you’re eating healthy, since they’re low in fat, high in protein and low in mercury. Tilapia is also very hearty and filling, but isn’t greasy and it takes on the flavor of what you cook it in. In this case lemon, garlic and crunchy breadcrumbs. White fish tends to have a short cooking time, a lot of flavor and is generally good for you.

Serve up your fish with a delicious side dish of veggies, like Cauliflower Rice, Chinese Green Beans or Parmesan Roasted Vegetables.

VARIATIONS ON BAKED LEMON GARLIC TILAPIA

  • Cheese: Try sprinkling a handful of parmesan cheese onto the tilapia fillets once they’re out of the oven but still warm. The residual heat will melt the parmesan, making a layer of crispy, melted cheese. Make sure to only add a little bit in order to keep the cholesterol of your dinner low.
  • Spices: Sprinkle dashes of paprika or cumin onto the top of the fish for a Cajun inspired taste. You can also add some fresh lemon slices to the side of the fish when you serve it. You would be surprised at how much flavor lemon wedges bring out of fish. This is an easy way to change up the flavor of the meal without having to break out an entirely new recipe.

HOW LONG IS BAKED LEMON GARLIC TILAPIA GOOD?

  • Serve: Do not leave your cooked fish out for longer than about 2 hours or you risk getting pretty sick from it. If it’s a hot day, you should put them in the fridge much sooner.
  • Store: Make sure that you let your leftover Baked Lemon Garlic Tilapia cool down to room temperature before you put them in plastic wrap or an airtight container and store them in the fridge. Properly stored, your leftover should last up to 3 days before you should throw them out.
  • Freeze: Put your fish in an airtight container and store it in the freezer for up to 4 months before the fish will lose its flavor and become unsafe.

WHEN IS FISH SAFE TO EAT?

Fish is safe to eat when the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F (62.7 degrees C), according to the USDA’s official website.
