  • 1 apple , peeled and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar , packed
  • 1 1/4 cups applesauce
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9x5 loaf pan with baking spray.
  2. Mix the apples and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, nutmeg and salt.
  4. In a medium bowl whisk together the oil, egg, brown sugar, applesauce and vanilla extract.
  5. Whisk the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients then fold in the apples.
  6. Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan.
  7. If you'd like to make the design on the top add apple slices on top of your batter in a fun pattern gently.
  8. Bake for 55-60 minutes, then let cool in the pan before removing and slicing.
